Watch now: How to get a real estate license in Illinois
Step 1: Complete your required real estate education
The required Illinois real estate pre-license program consists of two courses: Broker Pre-License Topics and Broker Pre-License Applied Real Estate Principles. You may take these courses online in a completely self-guided format or with interactive components or in aclassroom. Scholarships and grants are available for Illinois REALTORS® pre-license courses through the Illinois Real Estate Educational Foundation (REEF) and the GI Bill®.
Our new online hybrid course allows you to complete your pre-license training in as little as 6 weeks. Check hybrid course dates here.
Step 2: Pass the Illinois real estate licensing exam
Within two years of completing your pre-license education, register for and take the real estate licensing exam with PSI/AMP (the state exam administrator). It is recommended that you thoroughly review the Illinois Real Estate Examination Program Candidate Handbook before registering.
You can prepare for the state exam using simulated exam and study tools provided by our learning partners: Exam Prep Edge and ExamSMART.
Step 3: Submit your license application
Illinois brokers work under the sponsorship and supervision of a managing broker, so you will need to ask a managing broker to sponsor your license before you submit your application. Submit your license application and fee to the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation (IDFPR).

You can apply for a real estate license after completing your pre-license education and passing the state and national licensing exam. Our online pre-license courses are self-paced, and our Accelerated Broker Pre-License course takes only 9 weeks to complete. Pre-license courses expire 180 days from the date of purchase.
What happens if I don't pass the licensing exam?
